State Senator Speaks in Roswell

The North Ful­ton Branch is pleased to announce that State Sen­a­tor John Albers (Sen­ate Dis­trict 56) will be the guest speaker at their Sat­ur­day, Novem­ber 12th meet­ing at 10 a.m. at the Roswell Pub­lic Library, 115 Nor­cross Street, Roswell, GA. Sen­a­tor Alpers is expected to talk about Georgia’s pub­lic edu­ca­tion sys­tem, includ­ing finan­cial con­cerns. Dis­cus­sions regard­ing the state bud­get, cre­at­ing jobs, rebuild­ing and enhanc­ing our trans­porta­tion infra­struc­ture and resolv­ing our water short­age are antic­i­pated. Guests are wel­come and there will be lots of time for ques­tions from the audience.

Sen­a­tor Albers dis­trict cov­ers all of Roswell and parts of the cities of Sandy Springs, Alpharetta, Johns Creek, Mil­ton and Moun­tain Park. He serves in the leg­is­la­ture as a Deputy Whip. He is also Vice Chair­man of the Sci­ence & Tech­nol­ogy and Pub­lic Safety com­mit­tees, in addi­tion to being a mem­ber of the Eco­nomic Devel­op­ment, Edu­ca­tion, and Ethics committees.

Women’s History Museum Vote Due

The National Women’s His­tory Museum bill passed out of the House of Rep­re­sen­ta­tives  The NWHM bill was attached to other leg­is­la­tion sup­ported by Com­mit­tee Chair­man John Mica (R-FL) and re-introduced as H.R. 2844, the National Women’s His­tory Museum and Fed­eral Facil­i­ties Con­sol­i­da­tion and Effi­ciency Act of 2011. Rep­re­sen­ta­tive Car­olyn Mal­oney (D-NY) is a cospon­sor of the bill.

The leg­isla­tive lan­guage in the new bill revises and fur­ther clar­i­fies the bound­aries of the site that NWHM will be allowed to pur­chase at 12th Street and Inde­pen­dence Avenue, SW., adja­cent to the National Mall. This change elim­i­nates any ques­tions as to Con­gres­sional intent and will be help­ful in site nego­ti­a­tions with the Gen­eral Ser­vices Admin­is­tra­tion (GSA), the nation’s land­lord. Fall Leadership Meeting Scheduled

The GA AAUW Fall Board meet­ing is Sat­ur­day, Octo­ber 22, 2011 at Shorter Uni­ver­sity, Riverdale Cam­pus (south of the air­port.)

Pat DeWitt has gra­ciously made arrange­ments for GA AAUW to use the facil­i­ties. This is the loca­tion where the 2010 Sum­mer Lead­er­ship meet­ing was held.

Deb­bie Kar­vey, Co-President said, “Lau­rie and I hope to see you there … offi­cers and mem­bers, all are welcome.”
