Public Policy

Advocating for Women & Girls …

GA AAUW Public Policy addresses issues related to women and girls with a focus on economic opportunity, equity, and mission goals. GA state-level advocacy efforts in the past have pursued and continue to pursue ERA ratification in Georgia, as well as voting rights and fair districting, and other issues supported by AAUW.

GA AAUW partners with activist organizations such as LWVGA, YWCA of Greater Atlanta, ACLU of Georgia, and 9 to 5.  For example, we participate in lobby days at the state capitol sponsored by other organizations.  Every year, beginning in January, the Georgia State Legislature follows a 40-day calendar.  This is the time when bills are introduced, and advocacy work is critical. Local district visits year-round provide opportunities to promote important issues as well.
